Ingram Co. shipped seven carloads of fine cattle out of the valley on Tuesday consigned to the Cudahy Packing Co. in Los Angeles. Ed. Ingram and Chas.

Black accompanied the shipment to see that the stock reached Los Angeles in good trim. The cattle came from the stock ranges of Messrs. Adams, Oak-lev and Swall. The Newhall, Land Farming Company shipped 1500 fat steers to the Western Meat Co. in San Francisco.

The shipment was made Monday via Guadalupe. Clustering Pines for Mountain Side George W. Peavy, the forester located at the tree planting station on San Marcos Pass, visited the district in the vicinity of Big Pine Mountain, for the purpose of a preliminerysurvey of the country, to select favorable locations for the first attempts at reforestation. At the government nursery, of which Mr. Peavy has charge, at least 250,000 young pine trees are growing which will be transplanted to the barren hills in the forest reserve.

It is expected that in course of time the forest area will be materially increased and the w'ater shed greatly bene-fitted. Barbarenos Looking Ahead At an adjourned meeting of the city council of Santa Barbara held Tuesday evening an important step was taken toward solving the garbage problem which has been confronting the city for sveral years past, by appointing Mayor Edwards a committee of one to thoroughly investigate systems of destroying the garbage by cremation, and to obtaiivesti mates on the cost of a suitable crematory for a city of 15,000 inhabitants. W. Jones Drug gist. Will Irrigate in Los Alamos Valley Mr. Ilnscio, one of the big Ranchers Will Devote Considerable Land to Growing Alfalfa. Joe Muscio, the well known dairyman and cattle rancher residing near Los Alamos and the owner of as fine a ranch as can be found anywhere in this section of the county, has decided to put part of his ranch under irrigation with the intent to grow' sufficient alfalfa to keep his dairy stock on green feed the vear round.

Mr. Muscio has a made a careful study of the irrigation systems in this valley and like others has become convinced of their success. He has an 18-inch well sunk to a depth of 80 feet which gives him an abundant flow' of w'ater. In boring the well the drillers passed through twrenty feet of blue shale before striking the flow, which is a most unusual occurrence. John Wah, a rancher residing near Los Olivos and Anton Tog-nazzini owning a large, fine ranch at Casmalia, will both put in irrigating plants.

Store Changes Hands The Gutierrez drug store, the oldest establishment of the kind in Santa Barbara, says the San-Ynez Argus, has been purchased by J. B. Cunnane and Charles E. Phoenix who has been connected with the store for more than tw years. Mr.

Cunnane will remain in charge of his drug business at Santa Ynez. Santa Ynez Couple Married at the County Seat Chas. Henry Kane of Santa Ynez and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fields of Los Olivos, but formerly of Santa Ynez ere w'edded in Santa Barbara. The marriage ceremony as performed by Justice Wheaton.

The transactions of the outgoing board were reviewed and the reports by secretary Allott read and approved.

The matter of salary of teachers wns considered and after considerable debate, pro and con the principals salary was advanced $25, the vice-principal and LatiiT teacher, each $10. The same corp of teachers was elected as last year, with the exception of the commercial course, viz: E. L. Mitchel, principal; Mrs.

Ida M. Blochman, vice-principal; Miss Marshall, Miss Moskowitz, Miss Stearns and N. H. Woods, commercial instructor. James Murphy wras re-elected janitor.

Hoover conducts the college there now. New Railroads in Ventura Co Rumors come across the river that John Burson, having completed his Ilueneme-Oxnard railroad, is now making surveys in other directions. One est from Oxnard toward the Patterson ranch, and another southeast tow ard the Conejo, says the Ventura Free Press. It is rumored that Senator Chas. Greenwell is to build a bridge across the Santa Clara river.

I referred to the principal and executive board. The matter of an additional building tobe annexed to the present structure was next considered. Plans were presented by Messrs. Blochman and J)oane by which the present hall and stairs could be utilized for the new annex and its additional rooms at a minimum of cost. Mr.

Doane drew' a front and side elevation of the new' building which conformed in every way with the present building and would improve its appearance. These plans were adopted by the board and contractors were notified to have bids on same ready for next Saturday. It is not proposed to bond the district for the construction of this new' building, as a small additional tax alone on the high school district will pay for the building, this season. Our Union High school represents a taxable valuation of $3,500,000. The matter of levying the tax wras left to the adjourned meeting to be held today and all other matters pertaining to the building.

Formerly an Editor Now a Prisoner Francisco Guitirrez, formerly editor of the Spanish paper, La Gazeta, must spend twro years in San Quentin for having attacked Mrs. Francisco Ayala, with dagger, this being the sentence given him by Judge Smith oi the Los Angeles superior court, says the Santa Barbara Herald. Mrs. Ayala had lived with Gnitirrez fourteen years, but left him about two months ago on account of his drunkeness and abuse. A week later he invited her to a vacant house after protestations of friendship and slashed her with a knife.

On the Troubled Sea of Georgia Rupert has brought action for divorce from her husband Joseph through Attorney Armstrong. Both reside here. all burial permits which are desired for any who reside outside the limits of the corporate cities. The deputy w'ho records these instruments will be paid a fee for each one by the county. For the recording of marriage statistics 10 cents, fordeath certificates 25 cents, and all other certificates 10 cents each.

Whenever a minister marries a couple he is now required to return one of the certificates fully filled out within three days or be guilty of a misdemeanor. Justice of the Peace I. N. McGuire has been appointed deputy recorder and according to the law every death and marriage taking place here will have to be recorded with him. Fred Harlmess in Los Angeles Word was received in Santa Barbara Tuesday evening of the death at-Los Angeles of Fred Hark ness after a short illness.

Mr. ifarkness for many years was a resident ot Santa Barbara, but in recent years has been in terested in the development of oil in the northern part of the county. Mrs. G. VV.

Meals receiyed a visit the first of the week from her sister, Mrs. C. P. Mathison and daughter Cal la, of Angeles. Mrs.

By an act passed by the last Legislature, the Recorders office finds itself with a large amount of w'ork on its hands which prior to this time was not among the duties pertaining to the office. Under the new law, the County Recorder must record all the statistics relative to marriages, births, deaths and burial certificates in the fullest detail. These details are later filed w'ith the Vital Statistic Bureau of the State Health Board. Hereafter all w'ho marry will have to give all the history of their families the maiden name of their mother, the fathers name in full, where both were bom and other details. The same will have to be done with California Leads in Oil Production F.

II. the special agent of the geological survey, makes a report that Californias oil production is now ahead of that of all other states. The output for 1904 was 29,549,434 barrels, with an ayerage value of 2,79 per barrel. Texas is not far behind with 22,241,000 barrels, and the Texas oil is worth 3.67 per barrel. The other oil-producing states are Oklahomo and Indian Territory, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Indiana, The total oil production of the United States for 1904 was 117,063,421 barrels.

Threshing Outfit -Wrecked The threshing outfit which was purchased last month by J. T. Steel and A. R. Grimes, got mixed up in a train wreck at San Lnis upon its arrival there last week, says the Recorder.

The machine was totally wrecked Another outfit was immediately wired for to Sau Francisco and this is expected to arrive Saturday. The engine, which was sent to San Francisco to be repaired, will be here Tuesday, and threshing will probably begin about the last of next week..
