The officer said the speeding car hit a bump at Holly Street and bounced into the air. Snyder searched Liston following a' short chase, he said, and "found a gun in his coat pocket and told him he was under arrest." One shell was missing from the 22 caliber revolver, officers said, but it had not been determined if the weapon recently was fired. Snyder said as he was. driving Liston to police headquarters, not knowing who his prisoner was, Liston "justcameunglued. He wanted to mix it up and he became belligerent." Patrolman James (Buster) Snyder stopped Liston for, allegedly speeding on an East Denver Boulevard not far from the former champion's home. Snyder said he was not aware at the time that the man was Liston. The officer when he told Liston he was taking him EUGENE, (UPD-That long-awaited basketball battle between nationally fifth ranked Oregon State and nationally first ranked UCLA at the NCAA regional cage tournament will never take place.

Pesky Seattle, twice beaten by Oregon State during the regular season, overcame a 10-point deficit with five minutes to play and upset the Beavers, 61-57, here in the first round of the NCAA western regional basketball tourn-ment before 9,524 fans. Utah State nipped Arizona State, 92-90, in another come-from-behind thriller to qualify also for Friday's second round of action at Corvallis, Ore. Friday's lineup will now present Big Six king UCLA T.26-0) against the Chiefs (21-5) and Utah State (21-6) against West Coast Athletic Conference champion University of San Francisco (22-4). Friday's winners clash the next night at Corvallis for the right to represent the west in the nationals. The defeat, of Oregon State was a disappointing final note to the career of coach Slats Gill, who has resigned his post to become the Oregon State athletic director.
