This is made by dissolving sugar in water and heating it until the sugar is thoroughly dissolved. You may use a thin, medium or heavy consistency syrup. Here are the proportions: For a thin syrup: 4 cups water, 2 cups sugar. For medium syrup: 4 cups water. 3 cups sugar.

For a heavy syrup: 4 cups water, 4 and three-fourths cups sugar. The sugar syrup contributes flavor and preserves the good color and texture of the fruit. However, if you want to reduce the calorie content in your canned fruit. you may use plain water or fruit juice or a combination of water, juice and syrup as the canning liquid. U'se whatever proportions taste good to you.

Apple and pineapple juice are popular juices to use for this, but you may want to experiment with others. processing the filled and capped jars in a boiling water bath.
