and and and and and and and a a Santa Maria, Times, Friday, Dec. 27, 1985-19 air kills Florida crops are in danger United Press International Clouds of wind-whipped snow shrouded roads today from the Plains to the Great Lakes while a record blast of frigid air in the Southeast made it colder in central Florida than in Alaska and threatened citrus crops for a second day. Eight deaths were attributed to the icy blast of weather, including three from exposure. Two homeless men in the nation's capital, one in his 70s and the other in his 30s, apparently froze to death on city streets Thursday as the mercury dropped to a bone-chilling 11 degrees. In Michigan, a woman believed to have Alzheimer's Disease froze to death outside her home Thursday as she sought help for her husband the victim of an apparent heart attack.

Travelers advisories for dense fog today were posted in northern Nevada and northern and central California. Fog in Anaheim, was blamed for the death Thursday of a man who was hit by a car while crossing the street. At the southern tip of Florida early today, the temperature in Key West dropped to a record 46 degrees. Elsewhere in the state, it was 38 degrees in West Palm Beach and 32 in Orlando, compared with 33 in Anchorage, Alaska. Early today the temperature dropped to 7 below in Boise, Idaho.

Snow fell from Nebraska and the Dakotas to the Great Lakes early today. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Borgens, on Sept. 11, 1983. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Chapel.

Hope D. Hamlin Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of DudleyHoffman Mortuary for Hope Dun- in the Great Lakes, and travelers advisories for blowing and drifting snow reached from Wyoming to western Maryland. Winds up to 58 mph swept across Wisconsin Thursday. Gusts of 55 mph raked Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Highways 2 and 53 were closed Thursday because of blowing snow and were only open to one lane of traffic early today.

Snow was also blamed for the deaths of two other people in separate accidents in Michigan Thursday. Robert Beckwith 47, Goshen, was killed: near Big Rapids when a truck slid out of control and hit his car, and an unidentified woman died in a car crash on a snow-covered road 1 near Detroit. A traffic death also was blamed on icy. conditions in Rochester, Minn. can Hamlin, 81, who died Wednesday at her residence of natural causes.

Dr. Charles N. Gibbs, of the -First Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery. Mrs.

Hamlin was born in Osborn County, one of 14 children, and had been a Santa Maria resident since 1931. She formerly worked for La Brea Securities from 1931 to 1944 as a secretary with the Aeronautics School and the Santa Maria Valley Railroad. She was a member of the American Legion Post 56 Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Hobart O. Hamlin, Santa Maria; son, Robert D.

Hamlin, Walnut Creek; brothers, Erwin E. Duncan, San Luis Obispo, and William G. Duncan, Santa Rosa; sisters, Inda Richter, San Pedro, Hazle Parker, Santa Ana, Charity Hay, Spokane, Dorothy Spade, Vida, and Alice Foss, Hamilton, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.

He worked as a refrigeration engineer for the New England Fish Co. in Ketchikan, Alaska, for 40 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member and past patron of the Order of Eastern Star Aurora Chapter 3 of Ketchikan, was a 32nd-degree Mason of the Ketchikan Masonic Lodge No. 159 and was a member of the Nile Temple of Mountlake Terrace, Alaska Yukon Pioneers, Santa Maria Senior Citizens and the Santa Maria Newcomers Men's Club.

Survivors include his widow, Aubine E. "Beanie" Doyle, Santa Maria; daughter, Joann Baca, Pasadena; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. William J. Webster At his request, no services will be held for William J. Webster, 59, who died Tuesday in a local hospital of natural causes. Cremation and private inurnment will be held.

Mr. Webster was born in 1 Santa Maria and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He worked as a carpenter most of his life, and also was employed in the CBS Records maintenance department from 1972 until 1982, when he took an early retirement. He was a veteran of U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 2477 of Santa Maria.

Survivors include his widow, Peggy N. Webster, Santa Maria; son, Charles "Chuck" Webster, Orcutt; daughters, Linda Deets, Santa Maria, and Debra Webster, Eu- Santa Maria; grandchildren, Shane and Taryn Deets, Leah Cardoza, Blake and Janessa Webster. Franklin R. Cole ARROYO GRANDE Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Wood-Voakes Mortuary Chapel, Arroyo Grande, for Franklin R. Cole, 67, of Arroyo Grande, who died Tuesday in an Arroyo Grande hospital of natural causes. Rev.

Robert Banker, of the Open Door Church, Oceano, will officiate. Private burial will be in the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. Mr. Cole was born in Cyril, Okla. He moved to the Five Cities area in 1962, and had lived in Arroyo Grande for the past 15 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the San Luis Obispo Elks Lodge No. 322, Triangle Grange No. 162 of Arroyo Grande, South County Seniors and the Better Breathers Club of Arroyo Grande.

Survivors include his widow, Ella M. Cole, Arroyo Grande; mother, Mattie Robertson, Visalia: sons, Charlie Richards, Ojai, Donald Richards, Australia, and Larry Richards, Grover City; daughters, Phyllis Amaral, Tulare, Beverly Batson, San Luis Obispo, and Donna Crockell, Arroyo Grande; brother, Ray Cole, Dennison, Texas; sisters, Lennie Rogers, Dollie Thompson and Cecil Bardin, all of Visalia, Ramona Wilson, Ivanhoe, Helen Butler, Gerber, Ola Jobe a and Exie Ritchie, both of Torrington, 16 grandchildren.
