A priyate letter from the county clerk of Santa Clara county states that Judge Reynolds, iD his decision against the Mayfield high school tax levy, did not question the validity of the law but based his actiou upon a local technicality which has no direct bearing upon outside districts. Said clerk statee that he haa consulted several eminent lawyers all of whom express a confidende that the supreme court will reverse the decision and thus settle the whole matter. W. H. Langlcis has at the Eagle Market some very fine lemons on exhibition grown on his fathers place on Moro creek in San Luis county.

The trees average a hundred dozen lemons per season. Fie also has some almonds and other fruts grown on tho same place. From this ranch he imports occasionally fine team or two which he sells for good round price yet no more than they are worth. He will have couple more horses on hand in a few days for sale. Mrs. Stearns, of Los Angeles, daughter of Mrs. Allott of this place has organized a class in oil painting at the Lucas Hall, in the room adjoining Mrs. Mew-mans millinery parlors. You can be come a member at any time you wish the regular rates being 50 cts per lesson.

L. Steele, superintendent of the Los Alamos Ailiance Flouring Mill, spent a couple of days at the San Miguel Alliance Flouring Mill last week. He informs U3 that the San Miguel Mill has a capacity of 90 barrels per day and runs day and night yot cannot fill the orders as rapidly as called for. John Rices new house is nearing completion and is ono more monumental evidence of the prosperity of tho farmers along the Guadalupe Way. Besides being a comfort and covnenience to the occupants, such improvements carry with them an assuring evidence that is good for the country and every body in it.

Mart Tunnell who took the gold cure at Stockton has returned borne sound and well and cured of the liquor habit.
