THURSDAY, JULY IS, 1940 TAGE 2 BARGAIN S110ITEK SECTION OF' THE SANTA MARIA DAILY TIMES Nipomo Notes Injunction for Union Refused NIPOMO The Children offconducted at Nipomo Community A THE BIG SHOW AND COUNTY FAIR ARE COMING i Court Holds State Law Is Inadequate LOS ANGELES (U.R California courts are not authorized by law to compel either employers or employes to enter into collective bargaining, 'a superior court ruling held today. The ruling was handed down by Judge Emmet H. -Wilson in a decision against the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. The Brotherhood sought a mandatory injunction compelling the Los Angeles Railway Corp. and the Los Angeles Motor Coach Co.

to bargain collectively with motor coach employes. Judge Wilson held that the California legislature had refused to set up -a parellcl to the federal Wagner act and had made no pro-viiion for any board or officer to carry out the public policy of collective bargaining, as declared by the slate labor Code. Patterson May A a i i k. i Fill Boards Break With Olson Opens Speculation SACRAMENTO U.R Capitol political circles speculated today on whether Lieut. Ellis E.

Patterson, having told Gov. Culbert Olson to go to hell when the governor telephoned from Chicago to request his resignation, might upset the applecart' and exercise his full powers as acting chief executive of California. Olson sought Pattersons retirement as a move to improve his chances for the vice presidential nomination by the Democratic convention. Several members of the California delegation are strongly opposed to Patterson as an ultra liberal and party ir-legular and would not go along i on any progr. which would mean his succession to tne governorship.
