The bridegroom is the son of Mike and Carolyn Budd of Nipomo, and Gayle and Steven Heisley of Fairfax, Va. A reception for 150 guests fol- Ron and Debbie Young of Lom-poc have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sonya Renay Young of Fresno, to Scott Carlton Wilhite of Fresno, son of Wilton and Jacqueline Wilhite of Santa Maria. The couple plans to wed Jan. 18, 1997, at Wolf Lakes Park in Sanger. The bride-elect is a graduate of Cabrillo High School, and California State University, Fresno, where ANNIVERSARY The Elliotts Leon A. and Sylvia Bedrick Elliott of Santa Maria celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct.

5, 1996, at a dinner for 80 guests at the Santa Maria Country Club with Greek music and dancing. They met when Sylvia visited a friend at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver where Leon was a patient, a survivor of three and a half years in Japanese prisoner-of-war camps. In March 1946 Leon was transferred to Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital in Van Nuys. The couple married Oct. 6, 1946, in the chapel of the hospital.

Most of the guests attended in pajamas. The couple has (wo children, David Elliott of Littleton, and Timothy Elliott of Chico; and two grandchildren. Out-of-state guests were Thelma Tyndall, the bride's aunt, and Thcora Morrison, the bride's cousin, both of Boston, and David and Carolyn Elliott, son and daughter-in-law, of Littleton, Colo. Leon attended the University of California, Los Angeles, worked with General Telephone Company for 31 years both in Santa Monica and then in Santa Maria from 1959 until 1982 when he retired. He is a member of the Santa Maria Country Club.

Sylvia worked at Chance Vought Aircraft in Connecticut as an engineer, as a mathematician with Dou- Sonya Young and Scott Wilhite she is a graduate student. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Santa Maria High School, and a student at California State University, Fresno.
